Mission Will Look for Life on Jupiter’s Moons (newsy-allvideos)

ITV says it's the first-ever exploration of the outer solar system by a European spacecraft. **"The new mission will explore Jupiter and its icy moons to see if there's any life there. … The billion-pound euro mission will take off in 2022."** The craft is expected to arrive at Jupiter in early 2030. MSNBC has the brief on a long itinerary. **"JUICE -- JUpiter ICy moons Explorer -- will consist of a solar-powered spacecraft that will spend 3.5 years within the Jovian system, investigating Ganymede, Europa and the upper atmosphere of Jupiter."** A writer for The Daily Mail explains why Jupiter's such an attractive exploration target. **"Jupiter's diverse Galilean moons … make [it] a miniature Solar System in its own right. … the mission will study the moons as potential habitats for life, addressing two key themes … what are the conditions for planet formation and the emergence of life, and how does the Solar System work."** Another possible draw is that beneath as much as 100 meters of ice on the moons' ...
